Romania’s M&As exceeded EUR 5bn last year, with the Rompetrol deal ranking 1st, KPMG says
Some 2.5 billion euros came from the deal clinched between KazMunaiGas, Kazakhstan's state-run company, and the second-largest oil company Rompetrol, this being the year’s top merger.

The second position was secured by the Petrom- Petromservice deal, with a total of 300 million euros. Ford’s acquisition of local car plant Automobile Craiova follows, with 57 million euros.

KPMG emphasized the areas which last year drew most of the investments were the financial services, real estate, retail and pharmaceuticals industry.

KPMG shows mergers in Central and Eastern Europe will increase by 72 percent this year with Romania and Bulgaria being the top players.

Investors active in Romania should target long-term investments this year, according to KPMG. Romania should also face structural problems this year when the current account deficit is one of the issues which must be carefully supervised.

The company shows investments in Western Europe totaled 950 billion euros, in the first ten months of 2007. Eastern Europe saw total investments of 120 billion euros, in the analyzed period.
