Romania's national currency gains ground versus the euro, to a reference level of 4.2254 lei/euro
On Friday, the reference exchange rate posted by BNR was of 4.2448 lei per euro, the highest level of the year.

The national currency opened session at 4.2460 per euro and then soared to 4.2150. At 1:25 p.m. banks were selling the euro with 4.2290 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty hiked from 4.0535 to 4.0140 per euro and then slipped to 4.0360, while the Hungarian forint increased from 279.30 to 275.70 versus the euro and then fell at 278.20.

For the U.S. dollar, BNR's reference level reduced 0.59 percent to 3.4096 lei per dollar, from 3.4299 in the previous session.

On the international market, the dollar climbed almost constantly, from 1.2461 to 1.2390 per euro.

Overnight interests lowered significantly and parked way below the key interest rate of 6.25 percent a year.

BNR posted an average interbank bid rate (ROBID) of 1.93 percent a year, down from 2.14 percent in the previous session, and an interbank offer rate for overnight deposits (ROBOR) of 2.43 percent, below the previous 2.64 percent.
