The country’s computers market rose to 165 million U.S. dollars. Some 193,000 units were sold in the third quarter of the year, 33 percent more than in the same period last year.
The retailers' marketing strategies coupled with the lower prices for components pushed portable computer sales to new highs, according to the IDC Romania analyst, Calin Mirea. Laptop sales rose 92 percent in the third quarter against the same period last year. Desktop sales went up 17.5 percent. The increase is the result of the large number of projects in the public sector and the subsidies granted by the state to acquire computers.
Mirea estimated higher sales in the last quarter of the year.
