The reactor will be connected to the national energy system in the first week of August, general manager of the company in charge of the plant Nuclearelectrica, Teodor Chirica said.

The reactor was initially scheduled to be connected to the network in the last week of July. The reactor will operate at full 700 MW capacity starting September, Chirica said. Once the second reactor becomes operational, Nuclearelectrica will provide about 17-18 percent of overall electricity in Romania.

The budget for the construction of the second reactor was set at 917 million euros, Chirica said, adding that construction works on the third and fourth reactors at the plant will begin once investors are in place, likely at the end of this year or the beginning of 2008.
