Romania should see inflation bloom this spring and temper back in summer, central bank official says

The central bank will analyze the trend on the long run and act consequently to set prices. The disinflation must be a long term process, the vice governor said. A short term disinflation would soon be outpaced by the growth of prices, he added.

The official did not disclose details regarding the central bank's reaction which will be decided within the monetary policy session slated for February. Popa said the central bank wants to make sure there will not be side effects such as boosting the inflationary expectations.

Popa reminded the central bank already reacted to the inflationary jump, harshening the monetary policy two times in a row, from 7 to 8 percent.
