The union in the field has challenged ANRE's intention to promote separate electricity prices for different areas deeming the measure would increase prices in poor areas.
In reply, GM of ANRE's Prices and Costs Department, Viorel Alicus underlined the measure regarding regional prices for electricity is not compulsory through legislation therefore ANRE will give it up if analyses and calculations show that differences between prices within the eight distribution areas are too high. “The underhand subventions between regions will so be eliminated. The measure should spur the regional development of producers,” Alicus said.
ANRE will complete calculations by the end of next week and then start talks with the Economy Ministry and local authorities to analyze possible effects of introducing regional prices in 2008.
To establish the eight different prices, ANRE must consider all costs involved such as production, transportation and distribution costs. The advantage of introducing regional prices consists in reflecting the exact costs for production, transportation and distribution.
