The year 2008 was marked by events such as the takeover of Cargus by the DHL multinational, the acquisition of 80 percent of the local Pegasus company by the French La Poste (GeoPost), and the merger between TCE Logistica and Curiero, after the latter sold 25 percent of the company’s shares to Asesoft Distribution. Although there are rumors that mergers and acquisitions will continue in 2009, analysts in the field have reservations.
Augustin Plesea, General Advisor of Cargus, said that expenses of companies in the field will surge in 2009, and lead to stagnating profit. Compared to other industries, forecasts are far more optimistic on this market, which is also reflected in the maintaining of the current number of employees. Furthermore, the Chief Executive Officer of Pegasus, James Gray-Cheape said that the salary level in his company will be proportional to the market’s growth rate in 2009.
