The electricity consumption lowered by 7.2 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, according to the deputy general manager of state-owned electricity transporter Transelectrica, Octavian Lohan. Electrica currently has a headcount of 15,000 – 16,000.
Electrica is a company owned by the state, with distribution and supplying branches in regions Transilvania and Muntenia. These, together with the Electrica Serv branch, address approximately 5 million clients. The company will spend 755 million lei, most of it from its own budget, this year to upgrade its distribution networks in a bid to reduce blackouts.
It estimated a 5.78 billion lei turnover for 2008 at the end of October, down from 6.14 billion lei in 2007, the decrease being put down to the privatizing of one of its branches. Electrica turnover amounted to 3.261 billion lei in the first half of 2008, registering a 8.3 percent year-on-year increase, from 3.01 billion lei in the similar period of 2007. (NewsIn)
