Sarkozy hailed the victory of Boris Tadici, who became Serbia’s president and noted France believes Kosovo’s independence is unavoidable. Basescu said Romania will not recognize Kosovo’s self proclaimed independence.
The Romanian president once more reiterated Romania’s stance regarding Kosovo, which come against the opinion expressed by most of the European Union states and the U.S.
Kosovo is a province located in southern Serbia and which has been under United Nations' administration since 1999. The province is the subject of a long-running political and territorial dispute between the Serbian government and Kosovo's largely ethnic-Albanian population.
In an interview given to the Romanian daily “Evenimentul Zilei”, Sarkozy said one of the purposes of his visit to Bucharest is to obtain Romania’s support for the plans France will implement, when it will held EU’s presidency.
In this context, the French president noted a common European pact regarding migration issues will be one his country’s objectives, after taking the helm of EU.
Sarkozy is making a short visit to Romania and a strategic partnership will be signed between the two countries.
