Romanian immigrants see Italy as an El Dorado; largest community here
The second-largest community is made up of Moroccans, followed by Albanians, the same document shows.

The “2007 Immigration” Statistics Yearbook shows Romanians in Italy held a 15 percent share in the total mass of immigrants, as 556,000 were living in the country.

Some 28 million immigrants existed in the Eurozone, at the beginning of 2006, according to the yearbook.

Immigrants’ favorite destination in the EU is Germany, followed by Italy and Spain. The immigration rate in the last two countries exceeded that in the United States.

Italy saw a total of 700,000 immigrants in 2006.

Moroccans ranked second after Romanians, concerning the number of immigrants in Italy, with a total of 387,031 persons. Albanians secured the third position, with a total of 381,011 persons.
