Romanian Lottery today throws EUR 11m record prize

The Romanian Lottery is today offering the largest cash prize in its history, as this amounts to approximately 11 million euros, for the first category at the 6/49 lotto draws. People close to the institution said some 6 million lottery tickets might have been sold by 2 p.m. today, when all the lottery offices will close.

No one took home the prize offered in last Sunday's drawing, in spite of the fact that some 4 million combinations were played. This Sunday a total of 6.5 million combinations are expected to be played, out of 14 million possible. The largest lottery prize so far, of 10.5 million euros, was won on August 26, 2007.
