“I was recently invited to Kragujevac to sign the collaboration agreement between Zastava and Fiat. While there, the city’s mayor asked us to help Zastava come to Romani, and practically speaking to identify companies that could become dealers,” said the mayor of Pitesti, Tudor Pendiuc.
Pendiuc added that Zastava planned to enter the market in 2004, but the project was not followed through. Fiat and Zastava signed a contract to build a mini class and low cost cars. The Kragujevac factory, affected by NATO bombings in 1999, produced 15,000 cars last year, four times below capacity.
