Romanian retailers stand to gain from Georgian conflict
“The embassy made a request to the Government to organize missions in Tbilisi, to see what products lack there,” said Barliba.
The President of Romanian Businessmen Association (AOAR), Florin Pogoranu, said the advantage is obvious, but there are risks that very few businessmen are willing to take. “Infrastructure is poor and relations between Romanian and Georgian banks are virtually inexistent, but Romanian retailers that used to export products to Georgia stand to gain,” said Pogoranu.

The Romanian ambassador says Georgian experts expect a food crisis, because most people displaced due to bombings are farmers who were not able to harvest the crops.

Barliba added that at the end of May, trade between Romania and Georgia was worth €101 million and estimates the amount to reach €200 million by the end of the year.
