Romanian stocks plummet at closing despite gains this morning
The Romanian stock market was influenced by the slump on foreign markets, especially the drops of European stock exchanges, Florin Catinas, an analyst with the WBS Romania, said.

The BET index measuring the market’s ten top performers fell 1.84 percent to 7,425.53, the lowest since August 7, 2006. The BET-C composite index assessing all listed shares minus investment funds lost 1.17 percent to 5,149.79, a level last seen in December 2006.

The ROTX index for trading blue-chips in Vienna dipped 1.56 percent to 16,474.98, the same it had in December 2006.

The BET-FI index measuring the five financial companies known as SIFs dived 3.24 percent to 58,426.75, the lowest it had in April last year.

BSE saw deals worth 47.51 million lei today, a 32 percent fall versus yesterday. Financial stocks were the most liquid today, Romania’s fifth lender by assets Banca Transilvania topping the list. TLV dipped 2.08 percent to 0.7050 lei, on deals worth 8.95 million lei. The second bank by assets, BRD SocGen dropped 1.50 percent to 19.70 lei, generating deals worth 7.25 million lei.

SIF Oltenia cheapened 2.32 percent to 3.37 lei, SIF Moldova decreased 3.38 percent to 2.57 lei and SIF Muntenia slipped 3.28 percent to 1.77 lei. SIF Banat-Crisana fell 3.33 percent to 2.61 lei and SIF Transilvania saw the steepest fall, dropping 4 percent to 1.68 lei.

Oil company Petrom dipped 1.23 percent to 0.4030 lei. Brokerage house SSIF Broker Cluj fell 4.39 percent to 1.96 lei. Drugmaker Biofarm closed at 0.4320 lei, a 3.79 percent drop.
