Romanians are increasingly investing in foreign company shares looking for higher yields, following a downward trend on the local stock exchange.
Vanguard brokers who launched an international stock exchange trading service in April 2007 now have 200 clients with investments “abroad,” while local brokerage company WBS Romania is “hailing” its 500 clients trading outside the country.
Preferred shares are for U.S. technology companies, such as Google, chosen by over 20 percent of Vanguard’s client, or over 40 investors, figures that are similar also for WBS clients. Investments also focused on companies that own companies in Romania, such as Erste and OMV.
The minimum amount an investor may deposit to open an account for investing abroad is €1,000 in the case of Vanguard, and €10,000 with Estinvest.
