Kurdi was responding to a statement made by the President of Romania’s National Communication Authority (ANC), Liviu Nistoran, who is forecasting a drop in mobile phone usage.
“I do not believe that people will forego one of their phones. Rather, they will try to keep both of them, and lower their bills, so we must come up with profitable products and services to increase our revenues,” Kurdi added. “I have never seen this while working in the telecom industry and do not expect so see this even during the crisis,” he said. Most mobile users in Romania have two or three cell phones.
Kurdi has been working for some 16 years in the financial field, as he was CFO for several operators within the Middle Eastern Zain group, with operations in 22 countries.
To date, the response of Romanians to the financial crisis has been below expectations in terms of the crisis impact, as they have not lowered their expenses. However, this could change in the coming months. Kurdi expects a decline of the telecom markets in terms of total revenues.
Telemobil ranks fifth on the local telecom market. Its main competitors are Orange Romania, Vodafone, Cosmote, and RCS&RDS.
