Romanians see Ceausescu as the best and the worst political leader in the last one hundred years
Ceausescu, who was Romania’s president starting 1965 and until 1989, is considered by Romanians the most influent political figure in the last one hundred years. The study shows the former communist dictator is considered a good leader by those who believe they lived better before 1989.

Another significant presence in the league is former President Ion Iliescu, the first president Romania had after the fall of the communist regime 18 years ago. A surprising position is now held by Basescu, who eight years ago was not even in the platoon.

Romania’s King Carol I (1866-1914) ranks fourth, followed by King Mihai I (1927-1930/1940-1947). The Public Opinion Barometer is a program meant to analyze the public opinion in Romania. Some 2,200 persons are usually interviewed twice a year.
