According to data provided by the Federation of Employers in the Romanian Tourism (FPTR), 104,000 people chose to spend New Year’s Eve in Romania, for RON 142.6 million (some €38.5 mln), down seven percent year-on-year. Most sought-after local resorts were the ones located on the Prahova Valley mountain area, where the occupancy rate is estimated to reach 98 percent.
The average price for a package amounts to RON 2,000 (some €500) for mountain resorts, up 11 percent on 2007. However, prices are expected to fall by up to 30-50 percent in the near future, according to FPTR.
A further 12,820 Romanians purchased travel packages abroad for €6.638 mln, 16 percent less than in 2007. Their preferred destinations included Greece, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria, Egypt, France, and Tunisia.
