“We will likewise enter electricity production. We are engaged in negotiations to take over the Iernut plant, in exchange of Termoelectrica’s debts, worth RON 160 million, and to build a 600 MW gas-fueled plant,” said Marcel Piteiu, Romgaz’s General Manager, quoted by the NewsIn agency.
The company’s Deputy General Manager, Lucian Stancu, said, quoted by NewsIn, that the enterprise is also analyzing the opportunity of becoming an electricity producer, due to the economic situation at the national level.
“We want to have our own electricity plant, like Petrom, to cover our electricity consumption, and, if possible, even to sell power,” Stancu said.
The gas producer budgeted investments worth RON 858.2 mln (€214 mln) in 2009, less than last year’s budget.
