Romgaz to look for natural gas in Poland and Slovakia

This is the first step by Romgaz to enter foreign natural gas markets.

Romgaz and Aurelian Oil&Gas signed three contracts to transfer rights and responsibilities for oil operations, giving the Romanian company access to 25 percent of three licenses owned by the British company in Slovakia, for which it paid $5 million. Furthermore, Romgaz will control 30 percent of two lease operations owned by Aurelian Oil&Gas and GB Petroleum in Poland. In return, Romgaz will pay 45 percent of several seismic analysis programs.

The state-owned gas producer and the British company have been collaborating for five years on the local market, and are to further participate in exploring operations in Romania. They are to participate together in a tender for new exploring licenses later this year.

Romgaz is Romania’s largest gas producer, and its gas deposits are the largest locally.
