"The quality-price ratio determines increasingly more clients to use Romtelecom's broadband Internet service and proves we have brought a competitive offer to the market," said Cristina Popescu, Public Relations Manager of Romtelecom.
Company officials said in May 2007 that their target for this market segment is to attract 300,000 active users by December 2007. "The fact that we added over 100,000 new customers to our portfolio in the first half of 2007 compels us to continue improving our Internet offer," Cristina Popescu added.
The Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Internet service, which was launched in 2005, enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines. Romtelecom's main shareholders are the Greek OTE telecommunications provider, with a 54.01 percent share package, and the Romanian Ministry of Communications, with a 44.99 percent participation.
The company's net profit rose by 5.3 percent, to €19.8 million, while revenues in the first quarter of 2007 dropped slightly to €222.1 million from €222.9 million year-on-year. Last year, company revenues reached €894.8 million, dropping by 3.8 percent year-on-year, with profit at €55.2 million, 35 percent less than that registered in 2005.
