“RWE is interested in investments on the local energy market, especially in the construction of new thermal energy plants, and the nuclear and renewable energy segments,” Hollander told Business Standard. Among renewable energy sources targeted by RWE are wind and biomass.
“We have two-three projects that we are analyzing, including renewable,” added Hollander.
The German group has been prospecting the local energy market since 2001, looking for investment opportunities. However, the only project it has been involved in so far is the construction of two new reactors for Romania’s only nuclear plant, based near the southeastern town of Cernavoda. Five other foreign investors are participating in the project - Italy’s Enel, the Czech CEZ group, Belgian Electrabel, ArcelorMittal Romania, and Spanish Iberdrola.
Besides investments in production, RWE is also interested in becoming energy trader as of this year.
