“There is a major gap between us and Nokia, the market leader on this segment, and our strategy is to narrow this gap significantly,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by Samsung Electronics Romania’s General Manager, JeongEon Kim, who assumed the position in May.
The local subsidiary’s sales totaled €184.8 million in 2007. According to JeongEon, the mobile phone segment increased by 25-30 percent this year, leading the company to a 19 percent market share in July. “We also plan to strongly attack the smart-phone market this year. This is very small in Romania, I think it is less than 5 percent of the total market, but growth rates are very high, as the segment has virtually doubled every year. We are going to align and even surpass this growth rate,” he said.
