“If, previously, we had business sustainability-related problems, due to very low margins, the new methodology for price calculation has slightly improved the situation, and raised the pharmacy mark-up, by a weighted average that remains below 20 percent. This is a percentage which would mean a sustainable average for a pharmacy, but better than in previous years,” according to a statement for Business Standard by the General Manager of the Sensiblu pharmacy chain, Claudiu Opran.
Sensiblu posted a 27 percent annual increase in sales in the first quarter of 2009, to €43.8 million. “Sensiblu registered an upward trend in Q1 2009 compared to Q1 2008, which we hope to maintain throughout 2009,” Opran said, adding that this positive evolution is mainly due to the strategy to adapt the company’s product and service portfolio to patient needs.
Sensiblu, the retail division of the A&D Pharma group, the most expanded pharmacy chain on the local market, with over 220 units, sacrificed its aggressive expansion of the past few years to focus on location optimization and business profitability.
