Companies in Bucharest employed the largest number of foreign workers in the first four months of this year, over 1,500, followed by Constanta with 400, Bacau with 200, and Sibiu and Galati with 100 each.

Workers coming to Bucharest are mostly from Turkey, the Republic of Moldova and China, according to data supplied for Business Standard by the Romanian Office for Immigration (ORI), and these work mostly in construction, production, services and trade.

Most foreign workers in Constanta are Chinese, Vietnamese and Moldovans, working in shipyards and construction. Bangladesh has supplied the largest number of construction workers for Bacau, with other nationals from Moldova, Russia and Ukraine working especially as truckers. Sibiu employs workers from the Philippines, Turkey, the Republic of Moldova, and China, working in clothing factories, as mechanics, auto body workers, goods movers, and unqualified workers. Galati uses workers from Moldova, Turkey and India, most of whom are working in naval and civil construction, mainly welders and sales personnel.
