Even though Sibiu County has been one of the main beneficiaries of road infrastructure projects in the past years, compared to other regions of the country, some €150 million are needed to bring tourism to European standards, far beyond the financial means of local authorities, said Martin Bottesch, Chairman of the Sibiu County Council.
This was one of the main conclusions of the debate entitled “Sibiu: From European Cultural Capital to Economic Flag-County Opportunity,” the second debate in the The Money Channel Business Tour series.
The Romanian state has promised to allocate some €10 billion from the state budget for investments in infrastructure in 2009. “Over 40 percent of this year’s budget will be directed towards supporting the county’s economy,” said Klaus Johannis, Mayor of Sibiu.
