“Last year, smartphones reached a high of 10 percent of the local mobile phone market. For the future I expect annual growth of some 4-5 percent for smartphone,” says Cristian Dragnea, General Manager of LCD Electronic Systems, importer and distributer in Romania of High Tech Computer (HTC) products, the world’s largest smartphone producer.
The market could exceed €252 million, at an average price of €450 for a smartphone, according to Business Standard calculations.
The market for this kind of equipment is still growing, with Western European countries having a 15 percent ratio of smartphones of the total market, while sales in the USA reach 30 percent.
Local players estimate that smartphones will gain ground, due to lower prices and a massive spread of the Internet, to be used on mobile phones. Smartphones are priced at €300-600. Best-sold products are Blackberry and Nokia.
