The trade unions CSDR, Cartel Alfa and CNSLR Fratia will gather 45,000 people at the protest, BNS another 10,000 and Meridian between 8,000 and 10,000 people, said the vice president of BNS union, Ovidiu Jurca.
Many public employees, health and education staff, workers from the power sector, the national railway company CFR and from the mining sector will go out on the streets on Wednesday, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Some 1,000 miners from Cartel Alfa will participate at the event and about 2,000 from CFR,” said the head of the union, Bogdan Hossu.
The president of CNSLR Fratia, Marius Petcu, said 5,500 medical staff will protest on the streets, 4,200 employees from the education system, almost 2,000 public employees and 1,000 workers from the power and gas sectors.
Unions' representatives do not agree with slashing all the salaries by 25 percent and pensions by 15 percent or changing the Labor Code, measures included in the letter of intent the government plans to send to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
They also announced to retire from all the commissions of social dialog if the Economic and Social Council (CES) does not reject the government's proposal.
The Executive needs 34 votes out of 45 to get green light for the letter of intent in the CES meeting to take place starting 1 p.m.
