Sophisticated telecom services expected in 2008

“As the new generation of cell phones becomes available, such as iPhone, Google Phone and the new Nokia models, we will witness a greater pace in the increase of internet services on mobile terminals,” according to the CEO of Vodafone Romania, Liliana Solomon.

Competition will also play a significant part in this year’s events, due to telecom operator RCS&RDS penetrating the mobile communications segment and new shareholders in Telemobil, the owner of the Zapp operator, according to Orange Romania officials. "Operators will focus on keeping their existing clients, in addition to securing new clients. Thus, we are expecting to see more Romanians owning more SIM cards from one ore more operators - one for professional purposes, one for family and friends, a new SIM for data, and so on,” says Orange Romania’s Commercial Manager, Thierry Millet.

Although growth is not expected to be as dynamic as in past years, Romania will still be an attractive market for mobile operators, compared to other countries in the region, such as Bulgaria and Greece, according to officials of the country’s third-largest operator, Cosmote.
