“We estimate a 50 percent increase in revenues this year,” said Strabag Investor Relations manager, Diana Klein. Strabag owns stakes in Romanian construction companies Grandemar, ARL, Carb Brasov, Drumco Timisoara and Strabag SRL. Furthermore, the company controls 55 percent of Grand Hotels Company, the administrator of five-star JW Marriott hotel in Bucharest.

Strabag is undergoing negotiations to buy a 20 hectares plot in the western town of Anina, Caras Severin county, to build the first cement factory in Romania after the fall of communism, in 1989.

The budget for this investment amounts to €250 million, of which €20 million are the price for the plot of land. “Strabag representatives contacted me two months ago to buy a land, as long as studies for limestone reserves in the region are positive,” said Anina Mayor, Gheorghe Neicu.

The first studies were favorable and the second stage will be completed mid-October, Neicu added. The Austrian company already presented the factory’s model and plans to employ 300 people.
