Swiss bankers coming to Romania

"We have sent legal notifications to the relevant authorities in your country regarding our intention to operate on the Romanian market, and I am referring to both banking and investment management services," Marionna Wegenstein, spokeswoman for LODH, told Business Standard exclusively.

She added that LODH is also taking into consideration the fact that the currencies of countries in Latin America, and those of emerging economies, such as Romania, were rather difficult to access until recently. "Now, every private investor can turn to various structured products that are profitable on financial markets. We are not considering such operations in the short term, but rather intend to begin our activity in the medium range," Marionna Wegenstein explained.

The Geneva-based LODH is one of the oldest Swiss lenders, with over two centuries of experience in asset management and a solid reputation in protecting the secrecy of its clients' operations. The bank's network includes 21 branches in 16 countries.

To date, since Romania joined the European Union in 2007, the number of lenders interested in using the European financial passport to do business directly on the Romanian market has risen to 51, plus three electronic currency issuers.
