Taxes and fees take deposit yields below 10%

The 16 percent tax on earnings interest, and fees imposed by banks, means that the hierarchies of most profitable investments are repositioned at a 9.66 percent high, and minimum values at the limit of inflation prognosis.

Banks leading in regard to fixed terms interest rates do not charge withdrawal fees, but these are hard to access, due to their small networks. Clients can avoid paying taxes by constituting demand deposits, with a maximum interest of 10.75 percent (Banca Transilvania). The disadvantage of such a deposit is that interest is not guaranteed for the whole of the credit period.

Annual yield could drop below that ensured for time deposits and bankers expect a decrease in interests in the coming 3-6 months. The final yield of lei-denominated deposits depends on the evolution of the price. The prognosis for the coming 12 months indicates an average 6-7 percent inflation, which means that net positive yield is made up only by what exceeds this period.
