Teachers go on general strike on November 18

Furthermore, teachers will have a warning strike on November 10. The decision was on Thursday, made following a meeting with Education Minister, Anton Anton. 

The draft legislation regarding the 50 percent increase for teacher wages was passed by Parliament, subsequently appealed to the Constitutional Court by the govern]ment, which argued that there was no indication where funds would come from for the wage hike. The court ruled that the draft is constitutional, and President Traian Basescu signed the legislation last Friday. 

However, in its meeting on Tuesday, the government decided that the deadline for the law application will be put off until 1 April 2009. On Wednesday, civil servants in all sectors announced they would go on strike as of November 20, unless Parliament reverses the government decision.
