The crisis drives up the lobby market

“Those who will be able to provide a communication mix – public affairs and public relations – will have the most to gain in the near future,” said Roberto Musneci, Senior Partner of the Serban&Musneci Associates lobby and consultancy company.

Laura Florea, former Corporate Affairs Manager of A&D Pharma, the largest distributor of medications on the local market, and currently Managing Partner of the Point PA lobby and public affairs company, said that, even though the lobby and public affairs market is a small part of the communications sector, it is not affected by the decline in communication.

“Companies have to continue communicating, and this market has great potential,” Florea said. Point PA’s Managing Partner added that the potential worth of the lobby market is some €50-70 million.

“The marketing budgets of companies are 0.2-0.3 percent of the company’s turnover. If we take a small part, 0.01 percent for communication with the authorities, we reach €40 million, considering that the top 50 companies in Romania registered total businesses worth some €38 billion,” Florea added.

Musneci told Business Standard that public affairs specialists were busier than ever in this time of crisis, and that the current economic downturn will lobby for the development of lobby in Romania.
