“The Romanian market evolved from €45 million three years ago to €75 million in 2007, according to data provided by EDMA [European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association]. I estimate that the value of the market amounted to €80-85 million in 2008,” Vasilis Chrelias, founder of the Diamedix distributor, told Business Standard.
The company official said that, once the crisis is over, the market could rise by more than 30 percent annually, until it matures. Romanians spend €2.3 per capita annually for diagnosis tests, while the inhabitants of other European countries spend ten times this amount, or €26-30 per capita.
“In five years I think the local market will be three times higher than at present, so that this will be able to satisfy, at least, the needs of the population,” Chrelias added.
