The minister noted the initial forecast stood at 6.5 percent for this year. Vosganian explained the agriculture recovered some of the losses starting the fall and a result above 6 percent is now expected.
Vosganian emphasized figures in the agriculture are 8 percent lower than the year before. The minister said investments went up 18 percent, productivity rose 12 percent while constructions increased 30 percent so far. Foreign investments stood at around 7 million euros.
The drought has wiped out hundreds of thousands of hectares of crops in June and July and authorities have been scrambling for solutions on how to expand and properly implement a working irrigation network after the prime minister criticized the way the situation has been handled to date. Wheat, rape, barley and other crops have been damaged in most of Romania's counties because of a lack of rain and extremely dry soil.
