Three of the 10 top largest Romanian companies by net sales posted in 2006 are subsidiaries of French companies, according to data centralized by Business Standard. Dacia Pitesti (automotive), Orange (telecommunications) and Distrigaz Sud (gas) are the pillars of French capital on the company market.
Automobile manufacturer Dacia Pitesti, part of the Renault Group, registered an approximately 30 percent increase in net sales, the most significant rise in the past year. Due to higher-than-expected sales of its Logan model, Dacia climbed two positions to fourth place, surpassing the sales volume of the Metro Cash & Carry Romania chain and Rompetrol Rafinare (Petromidia), which operates the most modern refinery in . The latter is a member of the Rompetrol Group, controlled by businessman Dinu Patriciu, while Metro Cash & Carry Romania is a subsidiary of the German Metro company.
Dacia officials have budgeted €2 billion worth of net sales for 2007, translating to a 30 percent increase, and making it the most dynamic company on the Romanian market.
The ratio of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by the top 10 largest companies in is estimated at €97 billion in 2006, and fell 16 percent from 18 percent at the end of 2006. Revenue of the top 10 companies this year amounted to some €15.5 billion, €2 billion more than in 2006.
