The calculations made by Business Standard indicate that sending civil servants on an unpaid 10-day leave in 2009 would generate savings worth 0.37 percent of gross domestic product in expenses with net salaries in the public sector, namely some RON 1.37 billion.
Adding up the expenses saved by the state in this period, total savings for 10 days of leave in the coming five months would exceed RON 1.5 bln (nearly €400 million), considering that the public sector has 1.39 million employees and their average monthly wage is RON 2,300 (some €546).
