“The depreciation of the leu comes after a series of orders to sell, probably based on speculations of players who have marked their profit, and against a backdrop of negative expectations in terms of internal macroeconomic indicators and the state of the international economy,” said Volksbank dealer Lidia Olaru.
The last time the European currency reached this value was 6 Januay 2006, when one euro was worth RON 3.6821.
The Bucharest Stock Exchange had its top sales value in 2008, at €18.8 million, which consolidates the negative quotation trend.
The Stock Exchange composite index, BET-C, (all shares, except those of the financial investment funds) dropped by 3.44 percent, to 6.133 points.
