While 26 luxury cars were delivered to the Romanian market in the first two months of 2008, and 11 units were imported in January-February 2007, only three units, all Porsches, were ordered in this year’s first two months. If we take the Porsche brand out of the equation, we can say that the luxury car market was non-existing in the first two months.
“The luxury car market is not as stable at the beginning of this year as it was in early 2008 or 2007. People are expecting to overcome the uncertainties due to the economic context in some way, and are less interested [in expensive cars]. We hope to witness the first changes in attitude as of this summer,” said Adrian Pascu, Director for the Bentley brand.
“I do not know why the market fell so abruptly. I have no answer to these questions. Anyhow, it is too early for estimates, I cannot foresee the future evolution,” said Mike Costache, Director for the Maserati brand within the AutoItalia general importer.
Car sales plunged 63.5 percent in this year’s first two months, to 18,702 from 51,186, according to data provided by the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).
