Eurostat conducted a survey between 2003 and 2005 which shows the number of energy suppliers in Romania increased from eight to 40 in the two-year period. Some nine companies held a market share larger than 5 percent in 2005.
Eurostat shows there were seven companies in 2005 that produced more than 5 percent of the country’s total electricity production. Germany had 940 electricity suppliers in 2005, the largest number according to Eurostat.
The report places Romania on the 12th position regarding the quantity of exported energy, with a total of 4,600 GWh in 2005. Romania imported some 2,321 GWh in 2005. The largest European importer was Germany, with 56,861 GWh.
