“At present, the online segment represents 10 percent of the business. We could say this increased significantly, if we consider that it was three percent of net sales three years ago. Next year, it could amount to 20 percent,” the company’s General Manager, Neculai Mihai, told Business Standard.
The official explained that many companies, even some of the large retailers, have started selling online, because costs are lower this way, especially since, in many cases, they no longer have to pay rent. “This segment grew with the market. Five years ago, very few people shopped online,” the General Manager said.
The company is Romanian courier market leader, with net sales worth RON 154 million (€42 mln) in 2008, up 47 percent year-on-year, and a net profit of RON 27 mln (€7.3 mln), 10 percent higher than in 2007. For this year, the company’s three shareholders estimate a 10 percent decline in net sales and net profit worth €5 mln.
