The lowest tariff is RON 264 (some €66.78) while the most expensive insurance policy can exceed RON 870 (approximately €220). Starting from basic tariffs, some companies offer bonuses for clients who suffered no damages in previous years, while sanctioning those who were involved in accidents. For example, a client under 30 years, living in Brasov, Cluj, or Constanta, who had two damages in 2008, will pay RON 1,307 (some €330.63) for the 2009 RCA from the Generali insurer.
Some companies charge several tariffs, depending on the car’s characteristics, the beneficiary’s place of residence, and his or her risk profile. Eight of the 16 companies authorized to sell RCAs are charging several tariffs, including Allianz-Tiriac, Asiban, Asirom, BCR Asigurari, BT Asigurari, Clal Romania, Generali, and OTP Garancia.
The RCA policy for a Dacia Logan car with a cylinder capacity of 1,401-1,600 cubic centimeters costs RON 534 (some €135) at Astra insurer, if the beneficiary is under the age of 25 and signs the contract before 15 January 2009. Astra does not apply the bonus-malus system, which means that tariffs are not influenced by damages sustained in the previous year.
“There are categories of potential clients for whom tariffs valid for 2009 increased by an average 10-20 percent at most, compared to 2008. This is the case of people under the age of 30, residing in some of the larger cities, where the registered damage rate was higher than average in terms of the company’s entire RCA portfolio,” Marius Onofrei, Communication Manager of Allianz-Tiriac, told Business Standard.
