Oil giant Petrom, BRD Groupe Société Générale bank, aluminum producer Alro Slatina, power grid company Transelectrica and Transilvania bank each increased their capitalization by more than €1 billion.
"Large amounts of money have come onto the market this year from abroad. Foreign investors prefer to place their funds in financial and energy companies, large enough and with sufficiently liquid stocks to allow both significant, rapid investments and fast exits," Confident Invest broker, Cristian Negoita, said.
Alro Slatina posted the higher increase yesterday, with a capitalization 2.5 times higher than on the last trading day of last year (December 19). "The company posted financial results beyond expecta- tions and even exceeding its own forecast in the first quarter" of 2007, Negoita said.
Petrom rose a mere 13 percent compared to December 19, but remains the top company listed on BVB, with €10.65 billion capitalization.
General stock exchange yields were lower yesterday, as the BET-FI index, following the evolution of share prices in euros for the five financial investment companies (SIF), was 51.5 percent higher than on the last trading day of last year. The composite BET-C index of all companies on the BVB's main market, excepting the SIFs, rose a similar 51.5 percent, while the BET index of the top 10 companies listed on BVB, excepting SIFs, increased only 38.2 percent, com- pared to December 19.
The annual average interest rate for six-month bank deposits in euro was 3.25 percent.
