The company already operates on the domestic consultancy market, providing assistance for international clients, but has never opened a branch. “It is the crowning of our two-year local activity. We have offered our services to several clients so far and have more than 30 consultants, half of whom are Romanians,” said Caramitru. As of this fall, the company will recruit only Romanian consultants, according to McKinsey’s representative.
The international giant will also look for well-known Romanian consultants working abroad. Its office will be located at Piata Revolutiei in Bucharest, where the company has rented office space for ten years. McKinsey already offers ist consultancy services to three of the top five banks in the Romanian banking system, in areas such as implementing new information management systems or sale process improvement, and has also assisted major European institutions with the privatization process of state-owned banks Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR) and Casa de Economii si Consemnatiuni (CEC). McKinsey was also part of a group interested in the pre-privatization restructuring of the national postal operator Posta Romana, but Roland Berger won that tender. Furthermore, McKinsey was one of the companies involved in the restructuring of domestic insurance company Astra.
