Total wages pus bonuses exceeded €815 million. The highest salaries were registered within oil company Petrom, Romania’s largest company. The average wage paid by the company, controlled by Austrian group OMV, amounted to RON 4,605 (€1,268), three times higher compared to the average salary in Romania, worth €357. Salaries plus bonuses paid by Petrom in the first three quarters amounted to €384 million, or 47 percent of the total paid by the 43 companies surveyed. Rompetrol Well Services, also in the energy field, ranks second, with an average monthly salary worth €1,260, followed by lender BRD Groupe Societe Generale, with €1,251. Within Rompetrol Rafinare, average salaries amounted to €1,180 per month, while employees of pharmaceutical producer Zentiva earned an average €1,081 per month. Other top 10 employers are state-owned electricity transportation company Transelectrica (€1,017), lender Banca Transilvania (€1,007) and aluminum producer Alro (€959). Listed companies’ employees working in the energy and banking sectors are the best paid, according to the top 10. Data sent to the BVB show that companies surveyed had a total 100,000 employees. About one third - more than 30,000 employees, are working for Petrom. The highest wage hikes were registered for fertilizer producer Amonil, which paid its 839 employees an average €506 per month, 82 percent higher year-on-year. (R.A.)
