Tourism up 6.9% in January 2008 year-on-year

There were more than 3.8 million visitor arrivals in January 2008, up 6.9 percent compared to January 2007, with over 8.5 mln guest nights, up 5.1 compared to the same month in 2007.

According to a press release issued Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Romanian tourists registering for lodging made up 78.4 percent of total arrivals, with foreign tourists making up the remaining 21.6 percent. These ratios are very close to those registered in January 2007. Hotel registration had a 71.9 percent ratio of total registrations for lodging, up 4.3 percent compared to January 2007.

The INS communique reports that Romanian guest nights made up 76.3 percent, with foreign guest nights the remaining 23.7 percent. (NewsIn)
