Another local company that could be targeted for takeover is Kubo Ice Cream, producer of the Amicii brand. Last year, the company negotiated with Austrian Capexit investment fund and several multinational companies, but talks have not been finalized to date. Swiss Nestle group was also interested in acquiring more local players at some point, but in the end settled for Bulgaria, where it owns a production unit. The main players on the ice cream market are Nestle Ice Cream, Kubo Ice Cream, Betty Ice, Alpin'57 Lux, Top Gel, and Napolact. Unilever yesterday announced that it took over the Napoca brand, made available for sale last year, but the deal is yet to be approved by the Competition Council. A decision is to be made within three-four months, according to a group press release. The value of the deal has not revealed. “Ice cream is an important part of Unilever and we believe this is the right time to explore this opportunity in Romania," Unilever South Central Europe President, Alexandra Gatej, said.
