United Media wins Romtelecom media account

The one-year contract was awarded at an auction on December 17. At the time, sources on the market indicated that United Media was one of the companies with excellent chances of winning the auction. Contacted by Business Standard, Romtelecom officials declined to comment on the rumors. Two weeks ago, the company was still refusing to provide details on the issue.

Last year’s Romtelecom media account rate card (gross budget, with no deductions) amounted to €79.5 mln.

Eight agencies participated in the auction for Romtelecom’s account, including major ones, such as Mindshare, Media Direction, Starcom, United Media and Mediacom. The latter managed Romtelecom’s media account in 2007.

Market sources say one of the reasons for choosing United Media is the fact that the agency is currently managing the media account of mobile services provider Cosmote, controlled by Greek telecom operator OTE, which also controls Romtelecom.

United Media is part of local communication holding The Group, owned by several businesspeople.
