“All products reached their target in the first quarter of this year, while the Tuborg and Holsten brands had the highest growth compared to 2007. Tuborg and Holsten contribute 27 percent and 15 percent, respectively, to the company’s total beer sales,” the company’s Marketing Vice President, Catalin Ignat, told Business Standard.
For this year, URBB has planned investments in excess of €20 million to increase bottling capacity and developing the distribution system. The company is also to allocate €1.7 mln for the environment. “Total investments made by URBB in Romania since it entered the market [in 1997] will amount to €185 million by the end of 2008,” Ignat added.
During the European Football Championship, to take place in June and July, the company expects higher sales for its Carlsberg brand, official sponsor of Euro 2008.
The local beer market is estimated to be worth some €1 billion, with Heineken, InBev, Ursus Breweries and URBB its main players.
